Alaska State Commission for Human Rights to Hold Meeting in Utkiaġvik on December 15 December 12, 2025 (Anchorage, Alaska) – The Alaska State Commission for Human Rights (ASCHR) will hold its next meeting in Utqiaġvik, at the Tuzzy Consortium Library located at 5421 North Star Street, on December 15th at 1:00 pm. The Commission will discuss holding a public comment period on the Commission’s current regulations for stakeholder outreach purposes, whether to reaffirm a prior resolution related to accessible prescription labels as a current Commission position, outreach marketing, and will receive a presentation from the artist who assisted with developing the Commission’s graphic novel publication on historical Alaska civil rights champions. The public is invited to attend the meeting in-person or on Zoom, with public comment scheduled for 1:15. The Commission is an independent quasi-judicial state agency that aims to eliminate discrimination and support Alaskans when they face discrimination in the workplace, places of public accommodation, housing, credit and financing, and government practices. The Commission consists of seven volunteers who are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the legislature for rotating five-year terms. The Commission consists of Chairperson Dorene Lorenz (Juneau), Vice Chairperson Jessie Ruffridge (Soldotna), William Craig (Sitka), Rebecca Carrillo (Juneau), Zackary Gottshall (Anchorage), Shiela Cernich (Anchorage), and Grace Salazar (Anchorage).
